We continually strive to find ways to benefit our members, such as corporate discounts. As a member of the KCBA your are eligible for:
- membership in Consumers Credit Union
- discounts at Rx Optical
The KCBA provides a number of opportunities for members to serve the community. We provide free legal clinics each month at different locations in the community and our members and their staff have volunteered for Habitat for Humanity projects.
Meetings & Social Events
Membership meetings and other social events help members by providing opportunities to participate in activities designed to enhance professional development as well as personal enjoyment. Members are able to meet and relax with old friends as well as to network and become acquainted with new colleagues.
ANNOTATIONS, the Association’s newsletter, is published 5 times a year offering reports on Association activities, court updates, law related articles and an events calendar.
The Kalamazoo County Bar Association and the Kalamazoo Public Library co-sponsor a series of ATTORNEYS ONLY roundtables. They are held over the noon hour at the Kalamazoo Public Library. These informal sessions are open to any attorney interested in learning about the specific topic areas as well as those with some expertise who wish to share their experience.
The Association recognizes two individuals for outstanding service:
Distinguished Community Service Award
This award is bestowed on a KCBA member who has made a significant contribution to the community outside the legal profession, not for monetary gain.
Donald P. Stone Service Award
This award is given to a young attorney who through his or her service, contributes to the quality of our profession and/or the quality of life here in Kalamazoo County. A “young attorney” for purposes of this award is someone under the age of thirty-five or someone who has practiced 10 or less years.
The Association routinely celebrates and holds receptions for different events:
- Memorial Services: to honor the memories of deceased
- Swearing In Ceremonies: to assist with the admission
of new attorneys to the Bar
Sections have been established in order to give members who practice in a particular area, or who share similar interests, the opportunity to meet on a regular basis in order to provide updates on the law and other information important to their practices.
Committees have been established to perform functions in the best interest of the Association.
